Karate

Traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu is one of the most effective and well-respected Karate systems in the world today. Taught intact with hundreds of years of lineage, this system, through form practice, preserves and teaches the science of movement and principles of stand-up fighting. Goju is primarily known as a striker’s art with excellent movement and angle fighting capability. With a specialty in close-quarter environments, we also see it’s inside fighting nature: one that utilizes elbows, knees and trap hand striking.

Kung Fu

Kung Fu is a Chinese Martial Art with a spiritual dimension, stemming from concentration and discipline. From the family of striking arts, it incorporates the movements and fighting styles of five separate animals: the Tiger, Leopard, Dragon, Crane and Snake. Each animal form of the Ng Ying Kune (Five Animal Forms) system has its own strategy of combat and focuses on specific developmental aspects of the body and mind.

Kobudo

The goal of weapons training is "integration" where the weapon becomes an extension of one's own body rather than used as a separate appendage. The important physical aspects of weapons training involve the teachings of transition and directional movement, body alignment, balance, grace and co-ordination between the body and the weapon. Studies include Okinawan and Chinese weaponry, improvised weapons and knife fighting.

Aiki Jujutsu

Classical Aiki Jujutsu, known as the original locking art, is non-competitive and practised in a traditional fashion honouring the history of the art. It is considered the mother art of modern day Jujutsu and the "Aiki" styles such as Aikido, Judo and Hapkido. It is a graceful, flowing art that utilizes intrinsic energy to lock, throw and control an opponent through leverage and balance.

Jujutsu

Jujutsu is a collective name for Japanese Martial Art styles that utilize strikes, clinch fighting, takedowns and ground combat. Modern Japanese Jujutsu, also referred to as Combative Jujutsu, emphasizes practical techniques that can be used effectively on the street as a means of self-protection rather than competition.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a Modern Martial Art and combat sport born of Judo and Jujutsu. Through trial and error, the Brazilians have developed a very simple yet very intricate theory and strategy for approaching self-defense, sportive grappling and Mixed Martial Arts competition. This strategy employs a variety of techniques including throws and takedowns with the emphasis on grappling and ground work where the goal is set on gaining positional dominance over the opponent to force submission utilizing joint locks and chokeholds.

Shuhari Martial Arts is a proud member of the Franco/Behring Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Association of Canada. Under the tutelage of Professor Sylvio Behring of Brazil and Professor Shah Franco of Toronto, Shuhari Martial Arts offers the progressive system of Jujutsu. This proven and effective system includes self-defense, Judo and ground fighting.
